Club Fair is an annual opportunity for U. City students to check out the myriad clubs, groups, and teams at our school and decide how they’d like to spend their time after school. There’s a club for everyone – Spectrum and Art Club for the artistically inclined, Latin Club and Gateway Book Club for the academics, the 3397 RoboLions team for the aspiring engineers, and many, many more.
“I thought it was well organized…all the clubs had members to assist students,” said freshman Xoe O’Hara, who signed up for Aquatics Club because she is on the swim team and believes it ties in together with it.
Attending Club Fair 2012 were a variety of groups looking to recruit new members. In addition to the clubs mentioned above, Knitting Club, TREND, Aquatics, Yoga, Broadcasting, JROTC, DECA, Students on the Go, Mock Trial, Gay/Straight Alliance, U Crew, and others were present. Some were new, like Mrs. Martineau’s British Book and Movie Club (tea included); others were longtime staples of the school.
“I was in Drama Club last year, but nobody is sure if we are having it this year,” said sophomore Diamond Jones. “I joined U Crew because it has good school spirit and they represent our school in a positive way. They promoted themselves well and seemed to really want people involved.”
It’s not too late to join. Most clubs received many potential new members (34 students signed up for the RoboLions alone), but they are always accepting of more.
“I joined five clubs, including British Club, Book Club, Art Club, Mock Trial and Students on the Go,” said Aaron Young, junior. Young, who also plays on the soccer team, thinks he can find ways to make it all work together.
