Holocaust Remembrance Day brought a special treat for U. City honors social studies students. Sarah Moses, a holocaust survivor, visited several schools in the district on April 26 to share her story of struggle and survival. A former resident of U. City, Moses now makes a living off of her art and is currently writing a book. This creativity stems from the worst times in her early childhood as a Jewish outcast of society. Living in Hewish ghettos and oppressed based on her and her family’s beliefs, Moses used anything she could find to create toys and dolls to play with. She believes this creativity saved her during her time in Bergen-Belson as the youngest child to be liberated from the camp. Now, she spreads her activist message to local schools to inspire kids to use their minds to spark creativity and stand up for their beliefs. “Do you be silent or take the risk of saying something?” said Moses. “There are evildoers among us, grow bigger and stronger around do-nothing and silent people.”
