Freshman Justice Corn has scored many goals on her select soccer team, Panathinakos, but she has one goal in life that’s going to take more to accomplish than just a kick on the field.
As spring approaches and the U. City girls soccer team reminisce about their tough season last year, with having won only one game, Corn hopes to bring her skills and be a role model as she is going to balance select soccer and “low level” high school soccer.
“I’m only a freshman and I know I’m real good but I don’t want to brag about it”, said Corn. “I just know I can be an important asset to this year’s team.”
While playing striker, attacking mid and midfield on her high ranked club soccer team, Corn brings a new outlook on girls’ youth soccer teams.
“I watch men players like Ronaldinho, Messi and Ronaldo, but I don’t want anybody downgrading women, because we can get aggressive too,” she said.
With this feminist attitude and the encouragement that comes from Corn’s family, who has a long history of soccer as well, she plans on trying out for a national soccer team this summer right after she and her soccer team competes in Greece this summer.
The stats are not what matters to Corn, which she tells people as they insist she shouldn’t make the transition and “down grade” to U. City girls soccer team.
“Even if they do suck like people say, I just want to be one of those people who helps people in sports and mentors them,” said Corn.
