Students perform Sister Act for spring musical
March 5, 2018
Music and comedy blended together to create “Sister Act,” the spring musical based on the hit 1992 movie.
The plot focuses on Deloris Van Cartier (Haley Rhiney, senior) after she witnesses a murder carried out by her boyfriend, Curtis (Marquess Pearson, junior). Deloris is placed in witness protection in a convent by high school friend and now cop, Eddie (Nathan Hill, sophomore).
“My favorite part was being with the cast because everyone is so amazing and talented,” Adam Holahan said. “Also watching everything come together in the end with the set, costumes, the music and acting.”
Twists and turns and comedic frenzy ensue as Curtis searches for Deloris while she tries to reinvent convent to make it more modern.
“I think her journey towards discovering she needs strong loving supportive people in her life in order to be fulfilled,” Catherine Hopkins, theatre teacher and director, said. “And perhaps the pursuit of fame and glory isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. She may have found real happiness when she least expected it amongst a group of people who she never would’ve related to normally. And she’s found a home and peace with herself and a sense of self that she didn’t have before.”
