Snow days have hit hard this year, dragging the U. City school year into the month of June. By early February, schools had closed for seven days because of inclement conditions. The first school closure occurred on December 16 in the midst of finals and students were forced to attend a full day on December 17 to complete them.

“This threw off my entire schedule off,” said sophomore Alyesha French.

Schools all over the district closed on January 11, 20, 21, and February 1-3 as well, giving students, teachers, and administration a break from school to relax. The streets were filled with snow and ice. Fewer cars lined the streets. The snow slowed down many businesses in the U. City area and brought the city to a white iridescent halt.

“The snow was a nice sight but I really didn’t like the lack of things to do,” said senior Darion Kinsey.

Though for some students this was a big break and is worth going till June, for seniors it may ruin their end of school plans. The end of the year finals for seniors have been moved back to May 13, 16, and 17. Teachers will really be pressed for time because senior grades are due on May 17 as well. Though the majority of our seniors won’t be affected, unfortunately there will be a few who will be unable to walk across the stage due to their grades.
