On Sept. 4, U.City held a club fair which featured many of the clubs and groups in the school. Some groups who participated were AFJROTC, T.R.E.N.D. and Glee.
Senior Whitney King said she was interested in joining T.R.E.N.D. and Glee because she believe it would look good on her college application and that they stood out to her the most.
The group commander of AFJROTC, Omar Foster, said he has been in AFJROTC since his freshmen year and that his teachers are role models for him. Foster said his sister was in the program when she was a senior here; she persuaded him to join.
“She said it would be a good class to keep my head straight and to keep me on my best behavior,” he said.
Foster feels like he would have been a completely different person if he did not join AFROTC.
Junior Kaitlynn Douglas is part of the British Book and Movie Club, where their main activities are drinking tea, eating crumpets and watching movies, such as Dr.Who and Mary Poppins.
“I have always been attracted to the British culture and I always wanted to go to England and the UK,” said Douglas.
Derek Mills, junior, is the president over Poetry Club. He said he joined Poetry Club his freshman year because he likes to rap and that poetry is an essential to rap.
“We try to capture the rawness of poetry as it is meant to be heard,” said Mills.
Mills said that they like to let people hear each side, not just one side. They don’t want to voice just one person’s opinion, and they don’t want any dictating.
“Without opinions, it isn’t poetry.”
