A U. City teacher was recently awarded Art Educator of the Year of the St. Louis area.
At an award ceremony at the Chase Park Plaza Jan. 20, Ms. Morgan received the award from the Arts and Education Council at their 2014 St. Louis Art Awards.
Art teacher Ms. Claunch accompanied Morgan to the ceremony.
“It was a wonderful evening of live music, dance, dinner and recognition,” Claunch wrote in an email to her colleagues about the award. “…The Dance program IS Heidi Morgan. One of the sweetest, upbeat and most humble people, she would never brag about all of her accomplishments. But, when you see her in action, you gain an appreciation and realize what a great teacher she is.”
Fellow staff members responded with congratulations.
“Congratulations,” wrote Ms. Griffin-Essex. It is truly refreshing to see someone with your passion and dedication. You are a rare gem and UCHS is lucky to have you.”
“Congratulations, Heidi! You have definitely touched the lives of our students, especially those with special needs in academics and behavior,” wrote Ms. Rock, Special School District teacher. “Thank you for supporting our students and helping them to find the courage to try something outside the box.”
