We’re heading into that time of year when you gather up all of your old study guides, worksheets, and chicken scratched notes to study for finals.
As there are many ways to prepare for finals everyone is doing it differently. Some students are using the know/ don’t know strategy.
“I don’t plan on studying. I know what I know and what I don’t I’ll fail,” said sophomore Christopher McFadden.
Other students are planning on devoting every free moment of their weekend or time after school to study. Many planned on reviewing with teachers or going to quiet places to study with friends. Even students with a busy schedule are setting aside a little study time.
“Since I have a job, I’ll stay after school with my teacher on my off days and at work I’ll study during my break,” said junior Quinesha Holley.
Plenty of teachers have been pointing out the importance of avoiding cramming. They have suggested that students study a little every night up until their final rather than just the night before and the last moment before class. Teachers have also suggested study methods such as flash cards, reviewing old notes and study groups.
“Look at materials early and as often as you can,” said geometry teacher Mr. Ladage. “It’s just like when you hear song lyrics, you don’t try to force your brain to learn them all in one day. You listen to the song a few times and begin to learn the lyrics. The same applies to studying.”
