Beyonce, Chaka Khan, Black Eyed Peas and Snoop Dogg, helped students kick off Spirit Week on Celebrity Day. On Monday, students dressed as their favorite celebrity, including fictional “celebrities” such as Barbie, Waldo, and Super Mario.
“I thought Celebrity Day was good, and you were able to identify the person who they were dressed up as,” said Mr. Gatewood, business teacher.
Wacky Tacky Day on Tuesday allowed everyone to show their school spirit by fully embracing the “tackyness.” Students dressed however they wanted to dress without any consequences. It was often hard to concentrate in class when students strutted in wearing mismatched shoes, ripped leggings, and fly shades.
“I believe it was not a distraction, some students showed school spirit, but students were on task. When they got in [class], we laughed and we began to do our work,” said Mr. Gatewood.
For Color Wars, freshmen wore yellow, sophomores wore pink, juniors wore purple and seniors wore green. Every class showed their spirit and dressed up in their respective colors.
“I like how people went beyond the usual and had green hair, wigs, socks, shoelaces, and face paints,” said senior MyTresa Taylor. “Green was everywhere.”
At lunchtime on Spirit Day, Art Club painted faces for $2. Many students came to school with decorated faces, and wore ears and tails like our school’s mascot, the lion. Black and Gold Day has been part of the spirit week for many years and it’s still an all-time favorite.
“Students participated in Black and Gold Day more than anything,” said Ms. Meyer, history teacher. “I loved spirit week, I like that the students join together in a positive way.”
