If you cannot get to school on time, then you are quite familiar with Ms. Nichols. She has been working in the U.City School District for 16 years and in 2010 took charge of attendance at U.City.
“From 1996 to 1997, I was at Brittany Woods, as a FA, (faculty assistant). I was then put at McNair from 1998 to 2000. There, I was a full-time FA,” said Nichols.
In 2001, Nichols moved to the position of attendance secretary at McNair. After four years, in 2005, she came to U.City high school. From 2005 to 2006, she was in charge of in-school suspension students. In the following school year (2006 to 2007) she was a faculty assistant until 2010 school year.
“At the end of 2010, I came here to work in attendance. I also still hold some of the duties of a FA. I like my job, it gets hectic sometimes but I like it,” she said.
A close friend that Nichols acquired during her time in U.City is Ms. Carr. They have known and worked together for 15 years, (which happens to be one year after Nichols started in U.City).
“At McNair, she was a FA and I was a secretary, we worked together there,” said Carr. Coming into the high school, I have been at the registrar the whole time”.
Over the years they have become more than friends; they have bonded almost like a family. “When we were at McNair, we did a lot of things together. We went to the ballpark and different types of parties,” said Carr.
Ms. Nichols has developed relationships with the people she works with and also some students who she sees everyday.
“She is a very nice person and says exactly what she means and I think the students respect her for that,” said Carr.
Even though Nichols is just an ‘attendance lady’ to some students, sophomore Aries Sanders thinks differently. “Ms. Nichols is a cool person. She is easy to talk to and I like that she gets straight to the point,” she said.
